According to the Times, Citation has been accused of pressuring clients into signing long-term contracts that automatically roll over upon expiry, locking them into unwanted services. Customers have reported aggressive recovery tactics, including the use of bailiffs for those unable to pay. These contracts, often spanning up to ten years, can be particularly burdensome for small businesses whose circumstances may change rapidly.
Clive May, a Citation client, expressed his frustration, stating, “The reality is the complete opposite. In my experience, they add to the headaches of running a small business.” Another customer, Laki Rahman, was blindsided by a £11,000 bill after being misled about her contract terms during a high-risk pregnancy.
